The HealthCentral Network Approves Video For Pain Awareness Month!

The following is a copy of the letter I received from Brightcove TV. On September 13, 2008.

My Life In Chronic Pain has premiered on Brightcove.tv
WATCH NOW

On September 15, 2008, I received this email;

Congratulations, your video has been approved! We like the video you've recently uploaded and are delighted to feature it on our website. You will receive a follow-up email from ChronicPainConnection.com once your video has been published to the 2008 APF Pain and Creativity Exhibit.

I am excited. Not just for me, but for the millions of people living in chronic pain who cannot make a video, or write a poem, or draw a picture or do much more than answer their email on their computer.

These are the voices crying out for help and not getting any response. The millions of people who are under medicated and suffering needlessly. The medication and other medical procedures exist. But not for them. They have

  • no insurance and could not afford insurance at any price

  • have insurance but cannot afford their deductible for the office visit

  • have medicare and cannot afford their 20% for the surgery

  • are not aware that adequate therapeutic procedures are available

  • have a doctor who is not educated sufficiently to handle their chronic condition

The kind of pain I am talking about is not the kind of pain you feel when you stump your toe and it hurts for a day or two. It is not the kind of pain you get from a broken arm. Once the arm heals, you pain will go away. I am talking about a pain that has taken on a life of its own.

The injury, if any, heals but the pain continues. Some how the chemical make up of your brain has changed and you are in constant never ending pain. It is a pain you may have for the rest of your life.

Only working with your doctors and finding the right combination of medication, meditation, exercise, and nutrition will give you an acceptable quality of life. And, this may take years. But once you find that combination, the wait and the work is worth it!

Listen as these two doctors discuss their understanding of chronic pain.

Congratulations girl!!! I'm so happy for you :)
I saw your comment on my blog, and before I answered it I added a widget to it to promote an event and my code went crazy....arrgggg. I lost half of my blog and I freaked out, lol. I'm in full flare mode again, man am I sick of this. I can relate to not being able to sit at the computer. To answer you question I do take other pain meds, fentanyl patch and percocet for the breakthrough pain. Still with that and the neurontin I am on fire and my bones are killing me. Weee! lol.
I'm wishing you a good day today hun, soft hugs,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

You sound like I felt last week when I decided to make this video. I was actually sitting on pillows and an ice pack. The pain pressed on! It finally eased up Monday.

I am glad to hear that you take additional pain medications. Neurontin is good but it needs some help. How, when you experience a complete flare, as you are now, nothing and I mean no oral medication helps. I find meditation helps me.

Losing part of a post is SUPER aggravating. I have been through that as well. I had a difficult time posting to your blog. There maybe a problem with the server.

I hope you get to feeling better soon. Where you are right now is not a happy place.

Thank you for taking the time out of your pain ridden day to leave a comment.

May you be well soon

Congrats McKay! Very nice achievement to give a voice to all those suffering silently. I saw both videos. I didn't know the doctors could do neurostimulation to try to manage pain. My mother tried to have the affected nerve killed in an effort to relieve the pain. It only worked for a week.

Congratulations McKay! This is awesome news. I know you're proud. Way to go...

Jessica, Thank you so much. I am glad you took the time to watch both video's. The information supplied by the doctors is invaluable to both the patience and the family of the chronically ill.

I am sorry that your mother's surgery did not last. That is a problem I have with surgery. The doctor performing the surgery cannot guarantee the results.

That is so freaking awesome! :) You're such a mover and shaker. Can't wait to get over this foreclosure thing so I can dive back into blogging and causes that are important to me.

I am glad someone else gets the stink thing. My cats pass wind occasionally, but it's moreso the yawning directly in my face or from my lap that really blows me away.

I didn't know you had pit bulls - have you found they are good family dogs?? Must be good watchdogs :)

Lots of love to you

Hinsley

Hinsley when I was going through the foreclosure part of my life, it was literally paralyzing. The stress was as heavy as if an adult was standing on my shoulders and smothering me. I could not see it until I was on the other side of the forclosure situation.

Once all of the legal matters were settled (my mortgage company agreeing to work with me and my family paying out thousands of dollars), I literally started to lose weight. I have lost 40lbs this year.

Hinsly, they are good family dogs. I see the news and read these horror stories in the paper. And, I wonder how pit bulls have gotten such a bad wrap.

There is so much erroneous information. I had a friend refuse to stay at my home, because he was afraid of my dogs. He stated that he had a dog to bite someone and he just did not like vicious dogs. His dog was not a pit bull and not trained to adhere to the commands of NO & STOP! Where is the connection?

If pit bulls were as vicious as a majority of society believes them to be, why is the state of Georgia training the pit bulls that were take in the Michael Vick (former football star player for the Atlanta Falcons) scandal and giving them new homes? Because they are just dogs who deserve a loving home environment! Not death.

Well Hinsley I did not mean to go there. All you wanted to know is if they are good family dogs? YES! And, if they are good watch dogs? Yes!

I have a video of my dogs on my Cafe Chronique blog site. The title is "A Dog's Day In The Sun".

I hope you are having a pain-less day!
