Six Things That Make Me Smile

I was recently tagged by my dear blogger friend, Jeanne at Jeanne's Endo Blog to list six things that make me smile. First, I like Jeanne who works tirelessly creating endometriosis awareness. There is so much miss information floating around the web concerning endometriosis and for that reason, Jeanne's blog backs up her information with the latest medical findings. Jeanne's dedication makes me smile.

Jeanne recently produced her first vlog (video blog) and it is excellent. She is a soft spoken young lady but her words are powerful and informative. Jeanne is determined to get legitimate information published in mainstream media magazines.

One of the people who can make that happen is Mariela Azcuy. Ms Azcuy is Senior Associate Director for Ladies Home Journal, More, and Siempre Mujer magazines. You can help make Jeanne's efforts successful by contacting Ms Azcuy. Her contact information is listed below.

go ahead, MAKE ME SMILE!!!
Family gathering always make me smile. The photo below is of my step mom, my father, two of my younger sisters and my only son, who is my care giver. These smiling faces put depression on the run.

Blogging makes me smile. During a recent bout with chronic fatigue, it became too tiring, to go across the hall to my office. So, I adjust, and move the bones of my office to my bedroom. I am so happy with my new area. And, yes, I smiled.

I love looking out my kitchen window and seeing the waterfalls that lead to my pond. It makes me smile because my son built it for me. He created a natural beauty on the side of the hill and it looks as if it has always been there. I like watching the water flow in the summer... as well as the winter months. Yes, it makes me smile. And brings comfort to my chronic pain. It is my alternative medicine for many illnesses.

Mornings make me smile. Now that is an affirmation that I can say with enthusiasm. Some mornings are so magnificient that I just stand and gaze in amazement. This was one such morning. Just before the sun topped the ridge, it lit up the sky as if the world was on fire. I was fortunate enough to capture this beautiful shot.

I like feed back form my blogging friends. This is a picture I received from Pamela at Pam's Garden Space. Pam sent me this photo of her quite space. It was in response to an article I had post regarding the importance of creating Peaceful Spaces At Home. Positive interacting with others makes me smile.
How BEAUTIFUL Pamela.

Flowing water makes me smile too! As do my friends and God. And petting my kitty cat. And fountains and waterfalls. Hikes in the woods, my husband John, beaded jeweelry, earrings (sterling silver, etc), crocs, Claymation Christmas Specials, and crablegs. Chesapeake Bay crabs, and crabcakes, with iced tea. Okay, that's enough of what makes me smile, LOL.

Mckay k,

In all of the months I have been blogging I have met many wonderful, strong, thoughtful people. Mckay k, you are one of those special bloggers I "met" way back when I first started blogging.

Oh how lucky I was to get connected early on with a woman as strong, POSITIVE, caring, and enlightened as you are!!!

Your open-minded outlook, your creativity, and your ever-positive attitude put you above and beyond... even in the blogging world which is overflowing with fantastic people!

You always have a kind word, a positive way of seeing the most negative situation, and a huge dose of gratitude for the blessings in your life.

I'm proud to call you a friend!

As you pointed out, there is much misinformation given to the public about endometriosis. This often devastating illness which affects 89 MILLION women and girls worldwide is often ignored or trivialized in our society. When it is mentioned, the "message" seems to get twisted around.

In 27 of my 40 years on this earth, I have lived with endo. In that time, I have never opened up a national magazine and seen a feature on endometriosis. Not once.

A few months back, I did read numerous articles that mentioned the illness but these were articles about a celebrity who announced she had it... that went on to mischaracterize the illness.

Essentially these articles did more harm than good and caused confusion for the public (and even for patients)!

Recently, there has been a story in the media quite a bit and endometriosis gets mentioned in passing. Let's just say that I'm glad endo isn't mentioned more than just in passing in that story because it's a very controversial story that does nothing to help women with endo. The notion of the woman featured in that story being the face people picture when they think of endo makes my head spin.

We need endo covered in the media in a responsible way... a respectful way... a factual way... a way that does justice to the 89 million women/girls who suffer with endo daily... and their loved ones.

Mckay k, I just got a good chuckle when you described me as "soft-spoken". :) Another blog reader had noted how "quiet" I was in the vlog -- and my husband got a roaring chuckle out that that. :)

As I mentioned to the other blog reader who thought I was quiet and soft-spoken after seeing my vlog, I am definitely not known for being quiet! :)

It must have been 1st vlog nerves or a bad microphone. Seriously, my husband thinks it's absolutely hysterical that my blogging buddies see me as quiet. :)

Let's just say this is the opposite of how my husband sees me. So that made me smile and laugh... that someone else now thinks of me as soft-spoken. :)

Somehow, some way I DO plan to get factual, useful endometriosis information into the mainstream media... if it's the last thing I do.

How many other illnesses affecting 89 million patients are either totally unheard of OR only heard about in passing... OR portrayed very inaccurately in the media? It's shameful.

I have been exchanging emails with Mariela Azcuy, Senior Associate Director of PR at Meredith Corporation.

She has kindly offered to pass along our info (pertaining to our request for an endo story) to the decision-making people at Meredith Corp... (the editorial staff and health writers)...

I am deeply grateful to her for getting this information into the right hands and I'm hopeful this will result in mainstream media coverage on endo in a factual way for a change. :)

Mckay k, I always love your pictures! Whether it's a family gathering or nature pictures, everything you post gives me a smile.

It's nice to see the pictures of your family members. After hearing so many wonderful things about them, now I can put a face with the name.

I'm sorry you have been struggling so much with chronic fatigue! I'm happy to hear that you have found way to re-work your desk area to make things easier for you. You are always a master at adapting to adjust to the challenges of your illnesses.

You are a role model for others in being flexible and simply doing what needs to be done to keep functioning while respecting what the body is saying!

Your outdoor pictures are always amazing. The waterfall pictures are always gorgeous. The sunrise and sunset pictures you take are just spectacular!

On top of posting such gorgeous pictures yourself, it sounds like you are inspiring others (like your friend Pam) to share their healing pictures with others as well.

Mckay k, you brighten up the world and make it a better place!

I am thankful to have "met" you and to blog side-by-side with you on this vast Internet... working to create awareness about chronic illnesses, provide support/information, and inspire others to look at the positive side of things... even when things seem very negative.

The dark clouds really do have silver linings.

Mckay k, I thought of you recently as I tearily watched a video of Michael J. Fox talking about his philosophy on being chronically ill, in his case with Parkinson's (but it could apply to so many illnesses).

He was discussing "whether he would want to go back to his life before Parkinson's". I viewed his answer to this question as downright masterful! (I posted his comments on my blog recently).

What he said made me think of you because it goes back to this basic, essential, core notion that how we perceive our illnesses and what we do moving forward after diagnosed with them MATTERS.

Dark clouds do have silver linings.

Thank you so much for your support regarding endometriosis awareness. I truly appreciate your enthusiasm! I have gotten many beautiful replies to that first vlog post and I've had several people write letters to Mariela Azcuy about endo.

I have to say, though, that you are the only one who assigned it to yourself as "homework", as you put it. You crack me up! I was laughing so hard when I read that you were going to follow up on the "homework" I had given you.

While I didn't necessarily mean for you to view it as "homework" (which some might view as a chore), I absolutely grinned when I read about your having taken it on as a homework project!

(Mckay k, can you please send me a copy of your letter to Mariela Azcuy? I'd love to read it and I'm trying to track the letters that people are sending in to her. Not only will it help me gauge how effectively we're getting the word out on the need for endo coverage in the media, but it will help me in future efforts to get endo covered responsibly in the media as well. Also, if any of your readers write to Mariela Azcuy, I'd really appreciate them letting me know. THANKS!!)

For anyone who has not yet read the chronic illness magazine article that prompted this awareness campaign, I highly recommend it! Just see this link to More magazine's article "Ill in a day's work". It's amazing:

http://www.more.com/work-money/work/chronic-illness/

The word Mckay k used to describe the More magazine article linked above is "phenomenal". That it is!

Everyone, please take a moment to write to Mariela Azcuy, thanking her for the above chronic illness article... and asking her to help us get endometriosis featured in the mainstream media in a factual, informational way.

Sending her an email as simple as, "I heard from Mckay k of the 'Living With A Chronic Illness' blog and Jeanne of 'Jeanne's Endo Blog' that you featured a wonderful chronic illness article in the February 2009 copy of More magazine. Would you please consider running a story about endometriosis?"... would be very helpful!!

There are 89 million women and girls suffering with this illness.

Each and every email sent to Mariela Azcuy makes a difference. She is personally seeing to it that these emails/letters make it to the hands of those who can make such a story happen!

Mckay k, you are a true friend and definitely one of those people that makes me smile!!!!

I'm sending positive energy and thoughts your way!

Jeanne

Hi Renee; Thanks for being my Internet source of inspiration. You keep me grounded in my faith and open to all the love that this world has to offer.

Even with all the painfully devastating illnesses you suffer with, you still see and proclaim the glory of each new day. You make me smile.

Hi Shauna; Your site is so full of love and appreciation for life. You make me smile.

Hi Carole; You are such a positive force in my life. Your life coaching in the proper techniques of using the Law of Attraction is brilliant. You make me smile.

Hi Angelbaby; You are so right. I truly reconize I am blessed with beautiful surroundings. But most important is that I am blessed with family and beautiful friends like you who make me smile.

Hi Janaki; Me too. And his words are always comforting and energizing for me. His words continuously make me smile. And, so did your comment. Thanks!

Hi Pamela K. H. It is nice to feel the love of friends and you are truly that-a loving friend. Thanks for all your support and always inspiring words. I love the new "garden friends" pictures on your site. You and they make me smile.

Hi Jeanne; You are absolutely amazing. Your energy has rallied all of us working together to create a force of good and as a result, we must succeed. I have no doubt that this will be the year that factual endometeroisis information is published in mainstream media.

Thank you for all the kind words. You not only make me smile, you make me blush.

Hi.
I myself have been living for the last 25 years with reumatoid artritis ,i have tried about every medication that's on the market the only thing that makes a difference is the summer time heat.
And for me the biggest help i get is my actual life compagnion ,my previous wife gave me no support, now when things are bad she allways gives me a smile and a comforting word tells me that things will improve again and that she wouldn't trade me for the world.
that's the power of love and when god wants to save a person he does it by true love cause this is stronger than anything in this world.
a very strange thing happend to me in the past 3 weeks i was away in Europ i kept wking up at night at the same time 3.33 Am it started to bother me that weird time to wake up so i put that time in google ,great was my surprise to see another 286 people having almost the same experience it seems it means Jeremiah 33.3
God telling him "if you call on to me then i will answer you"
I have allways respected Gods teachings but never pray because i don't like what the church has ecome but that night i prayed and try to pray more often now.
Will.
